Sweeter By and By

Every time this song and tune comes to mind, inadvertently it will bring tears to my eyes, and goose bumps. I think I should wear long sleeves shirt in future during church worship service. For several reasons why this is such an emotional tune: it’s usually sung in a funeral, occasions when a loved one has pass on to glory.

Nonetheless, while we may miss him now in this physical life, we will meet again in heaven.

Words: Sanford F. Bennett, 1868.
Music: Joseph P. Webster (MIDI, score).

This song was sung in the Academy Award winning movie Sergeant York (1941).

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blessed;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days.
