Blessings and Curses

Was listening towards the end of Deut where Moses was presenting to the people the commandments, blessings and curses of God. While some may say our God is cruel, unjust, etc, I think otherwise. All terms and conditions had been clearly spelt out, this is the characteristics of a very just and fair God. He acts accordingly base on what he has laid down. Sadly, the Israelites chose the latter, curses. They disobeyed God, and as promised, they were cursed and punished. Northern Kingdom was taken captive by the cruel Assyrians, while the Southern kingdom was taken by the Babylonians.

As I listen to the curses of God and the punishments, which really did come to pass, it is scary.

I can paraphrase the events to a Mother telling her children the same thing. If you choose to obey, you will get these rewards. If you choose not to obey, you will get these punishments. Was the mum unjust?

Oh may God instill in us the fear, the holy fear of God that we will choose the former. May we not be stiff neck like the Israelite.

  1. Stiffed necked, rebellious people.

Deuteronomy 31:29-30 For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands. And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.

  2. Deuteronomy 32:17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.
