When another falters

Recently, a local church saga has surfaced again after two years of investigations with findings. However, my interest was directed to the “purpose” of the misappropriation of funds. It was cited that the funds were used “with the purported intention to use … secular music to connect with people and reach out to non-Christians”

Herein lies the issue. You can’t use secular things to connect people to God. What is secular? It means worldly; not religious from www.dictionary.com definition. Is God worldly or religious? Neither. So why are people trying to use secular means to connect to God when it is the opposite?

How then should we be reaching out to the world to connect? To connect the world to God, it can only be achieved by God’s word, not by secular means, nor any devices of man’s idea. Throughout the bible, we can find no evidences of any one being brought to the conviction of sin, and the saving grace and acknowledgement of Jesus as God, Lord and Saviour by any other means than through the word of God.

God demands to be worship in Spirit and in truth, which to be paraphrased, not in the flesh, nor in falsehood. God did not allow man to come to him by any whim nor fanciful idealogies and home brewed concocted means. God commands that “thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” Deut 6:5. That means it leaves us not much room and time to spend on concocting idealogies and directing our effort to something else possibly.

I’m also reminded that we should not take this opportunity to mock or laugh at others, for this was the condemnation of the Edomites when they were gawking at the Jews being invaded by the Babylonians. God sent Obadiah to preach to the Edomites who are the descendent of Esau, the twin brother of Jacob whom descendents are the Israelites, better known as Jews, or Hebrews. “neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.” Obadiah 1:12

In summary:
1. No secular means for God
2. No gawking at others

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Jn 8:7
