Why Christianity?

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Why are you a christian? In fact, christianity is rather watered down these days… diluted. Let’s rephrase it why do you put your eternal hope and security on Jesus?
List down your points, and keep it simple. It’s not a difficult question, it’s as simple as “why do you choose iphone?”. I mean, let’s just even put the bible aside, based on word of mouth.. why.

Why do you believe in Jesus?
1. Simplicity – Believe and repent.
2. What Jesus offers – eternal life, heaven
3. Not what I can/should/must do, but what Jesus had done to get me to heaven.
4. It’s not ritualistic.
5. I can learn new songs of praises and worship
6. Assurance of heaven, without fear of not accomplishing.
7. It’s personal between myself and Jesus
8. Jesus himself is God.
9. Only 1 God.
10. No restrictive diet.
11. I do not need to burn things.

Interestingly, with each of the above point, there are scriptural evidences that supports it.

1. Simplicity – Believe and repent.
Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2. What Jesus offers – eternal life, heaven
Jn 14:6 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

3. Not what I can/should/must do, but what Jesus had done to get me to heaven.
Eph 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

4. It’s not ritualistic. By this I mean by bells, by motions, by repeating mantra, annual fasting, abstain, etc.
1 Tim 4:7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
1 Tim 1:6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
1 Tim 1:4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
Matt 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

5. I can learn new songs of praises and worship
Ok, this is more of an observation. However, throughout the bible, there are much recorded on singing praises.

6. Assurance of heaven, without fear of not accomplishing.
Eph 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

7. It’s personal relationship between myself and Jesus.
Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of
our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
1 Jn 1:9 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

8. Jesus himself is God and from heaven.
Matt 16: 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon
Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
Jn 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

9. Only 1 God.
1 Cor 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

10. No restrictive diet – ie abstain from seafood, pork, beef, etc.
1 Acts 10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

11. I do not need to burn things.
This is an observation. We are not required to burn papers and the such to the dead, or to God.
