Amos has 9 chapters.

What? God’s judgement on Israel Surrounding Nations, Israel and Judah itself. Pronouncement of God’s judgement to Northern Kingdom
Who? Amos, sheperd
When? Amos ministry 760 to 750BC. (Hosea -> Amos -> Isaiah)
Why? Pride, Complacency, Idolatary, Perversion, oppression of poor.
Where? Israel

The 1st few chapters opened with God’s declaration of judgement upon all surrounding nations of Israel and Judah, citing reasons, before finally pronoucing his judgement on Israel and Judah. I felt whatever God has declared and reasons given, has not been changed even in current age.

The bible is a terrifying book to read. To the unrepented, it is judgement. To the repenting, it is hope. To the repented, it is full of joy, instructions and promises!

Some history would be helpful her as we read the book of Amos, and other books.

Although not initiated by lot, but he was drunken with wine, and was initiated by her daughters because they felt inclined to continue with the family line and they had no man! Gen 19:30-38

Moab Benammi (Ammon)

United Kingdom of Israel
1. Saul
2. David
3. Solomon

After Solomon, it splitted to Northern and Southern Kingdom
Northern – Rest of the tribes
Southern – Judah and Benjamin

Favourite verse from Amos

Through Amos
God condemns Israel for 5 specific points
1) Selling poor as slaves
2) Exploiting the poor
3) Engaging in perverse sexual sins
4) Taking illegal collateral for loans
5) worshipping false gods

Take away verses:
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Amos 5:24 But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
