Repentance

There will never be a time we won’t stop sinning, but that must not stop us. Repentance by it’s simple definition is change of mind. How? It simply means you mind was going North away from God. When you repented, your mindset changed, now you are going South towards God through Jesus Christ. Will we continue to sin along the way South? Oh yes. But a truly repentant will have a pricking conscience usually. How so?

Do you feel visiting prostitutes bad? Some Yes, Some felt no. It’s a business transaction.
Do you feel lying is wrong? Some Yes, Some felt no. It’s sometimes for a good reason.
Do you feel buying pirated movies wrong? Do you feel using pirated software wrong?
Some Yes, Some no. I could not afford it… so steal?

Some are pure moral reasons that we know is wrong. But when the Spirit is come, one will be compelled to turn away from wrongs. Yes, he will surely cease piracy, theft, etc etc. If one does not feel pricked at all about doing such things, is he repentance? Maybe yes, or no. We men will never know. God knows. Let God be the judge. But does oneself knows? I’d think that person will know.

re·pent·ance
–noun
1. deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like.
2. regret for any past action.

Which is precisely why 1 Jn 1:9 reminds us “9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

In fact the whole context makes this verse even more meaningful. 1 Jn 1:6-10
6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleans us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

May the word of God search our hearts, convicts us, reveals to us our true spiritual condition.
