3:16

Sorry, but I’ve got poor memory. However, I thank God for somehow, put things in order such that when I need it, it comes! Concidence? No way! God’s providence. All glory be to Christ my saviour. 3:16 is akin to John 3:16 whom it is very well known, and probably the most used verse for evangelism. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Today, the 3:16 comes from Colossians instead. And v17 comes nicely complimenting v16.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Col 3:16

What are my take aways?

  1. word of Christ dwell in you
  2. richly in all wisdom (application)
  3. teaching
  4. admonishing one another (how?)
    – In psalms
    – In hymns
    – In spiritual songs
  5. singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Of course finally wraps up with v17 “whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

What is admonishing?
1.

to caution, advise, or counsel against something.

2.

to reprove or scold, esp. in a mild and good-willed manner: The teacher admonished him about excessive noise.

3.

to urge to a duty; remind: to admonish them about their obligations.

What is wisdom?
For me to put simply, it is application of knowledge.

1.

the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.

2.

scholarly knowledge or learning: the wisdom of the schools.

3.

 wise sayings or teachings; precepts.

4.

 a wise act or saying.

In fact, Colossians 3:16 is part of an entire paragraph it seems, v12-17

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Thank you God for sharing with me the precious 3. John 3 and Col 3. 🙂
